About
The band JOY was formed in Bad Aussee, an Austrian town of 5.000 citizens. Andy Schweitzer (26.02.60), Freddy Jaklitsch (22.01.60) and Manfred Temmel (25.02.59) were school friends – and already as teenagers played in different amateur bands together; but after graduation they have chosen different careers. Andy became a policeman, Freddy started teaching German language and history at school, and Manfred was a popular DJ in Orion disco-club, in German city Traunreut.
Joy is an Austrian Euro-disco trio that rose to international prominence in the mid-1980s, carving out a significant niche in the global dance music scene. Formed in 1984 in the small town of Bad Aussee, the group consisted of three school friends with diverse professional backgrounds: Andy Schweitzer, a former policeman; Freddy Jaklitsch, a teacher; and Manfred Temmel, a popular disco DJ. Their breakthrough came in 1985 with the release of the single "Touch by Touch," which soared to the top of the Austrian charts and became a definitive anthem of the Euro-disco era. This success was followed by other major hits such as "Valerie" and "Japanese Girls," the latter of which helped establish a massive following in Asia.
